My first time playing this kind of game, really interesting and such a good game! ❤

Thank you so much, I'm very glad you played my game :D And also happy to hear that you enjoyed it, thank you! I'll go check out the video now!

(+3)

I put this game on my video about 10 Best RPG Maker Games on JoiPlay Emulator If you don't know what JoiPlay is, JoiPlay is a Emulator to play RPG Maker games on Android

Thank you so much for featuring my game! And thank you for putting together an emulator-all of my games have been suffering compatibility issues with Android for some time now! And I'm not good at any coding (yet?) so I wasn't able to fix it on my own. I really appreciate both the feature and JoiPlay, this is great news so thank you :) And Merry belated Christmas!

(+1)

You're welcome I'm glad I could  help and Merry Christmas

(+1)

danggg this was amazing! i loved it! very spooki indeed, my friend recommended me this game, at first he was laughing when i was scared but then he gets even more scared than me near the end heh :p

(+1)

yooo! i saw you from manlybadasshero!

i was at first, deterred by the art style, but like manly said, it really works! actually gave me the creeps at some point! i can't wait for the third game in the series. :)

Thank you! Haha my art style is a bit janky and I still have a lot to learn, but I'm glad you appreciate it's horror aspects^^ Also you're in luck! I actually finished the third game already, and the fourth is in its beta :D

(+1)

did you do all the pixel art? it's absolutely gorgeous!

(many aspects of the game are gorgeous, but i'm partial to really nice pixel art. lol)

(1 edit)

Haha thank you for your kind words! But I have to be honest, it's a mix of default assets and things I found or bought on the internet. In my other games I add a few sprite edits, but so far it's still mostly from others, which is why the "resources" section of my credits is pretty long even though I made the game myself. (That being just for the pixel art though! I made custom art for the rest of the game like the pictures and dialogue boxes.) But I'll take it as a compliment anyway since you like how I put them to use XD And thank you for taking the time to comment and let me know, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

(+2)

Really fun and short game. I love horror games like this that change gradually as you progress. Keep up the good work and really looking forward to the next game!

Thank you so much for your kind words! This game was really fun to work on because of the odd changes, and with this particular character I didn't have to hold back on the weirdness XD And I've actually made two other games, and the fourth is in it's beta and coming soon!

(+1)

SPOILERS? also paying attention to the things around in the game is quite cool cause i see how things change and get creepier and it just shows how much you worked on each day in the game! 10/10

remember kids, move out of your house once you start seeing ghosts in your generator room and weird creatures outside your window! dont even think about staying another day.

(1 edit)

Thank you! I'm glad you payed attention because there's a lot that some people miss out on! But if I made the game force you to see all the weird changes, then that would take away the discovery. (And haha, weird creatures indeed...!) I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

(+1)

Does anybody know who won the first place at that "Liquikid creepypasta challenge"? It had to be something interesting to beat this game:)

(+1)

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it! First place was the Wurz Chronicles (Episode 1) by Retrodev. I think you can find it on gamejolt

(+1)

Played TWFTW yesterday at night and actually jumped once or twice(not ashamed of it). Horror RPG are almost never really scary, but you merged mysterious occult evil with trivial crime, that made the story soo dark (in a good way).

(+1)

That makes me so happy!!! Since my games are story-focused I'm really glad that got to you! And I'm also glad you're playing more of my games, because the stories are interconnected like pieces of a larger puzzle. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and let me know :D

(+1)

Always welcome and thank you for reading my comments:)

(+1)

No problem! Seeing what you and other players think is one of my favorite parts of being a dev!

(+1)

Just finished Veins beneath the town and i'm a little confused about that path to the forest up above the map. Why can't i go there?

(+1)

Oh! It's just there to imply that there's more forest beyond that village, but you never need to explore that part in the game, if that makes sense! Kind of like how you can't go upstairs in TWSTM, but they're there to show there was more of the house the family used to live in. Don't worry about it! Also, congrats on finishing all three games :D I know that last one had a couple brutal sections. And you're just in time, the fourth one will be out in a few days!

(+1)

Hey! Just wanted to say that this game does work on mac now, so no need to worry, mac users!

Hey thanks so much for posting! I don’t have a Mac myself so I was never able to test it. You’re the best ^^

(1 edit) (+1)

despite it being intended as a horror game i couldnt help but chuckle at how silly some of the things in the game seemed

also im too lazy  to try out everything to find the easter egg, mind giving me a hint?

Haha I can see what you mean, there is some really crazy stuff in there XD Part of what made it so fun to make though! And SPOILER WARNING---

Look in the trees on the 2nd night ;)

(+2)

Odlična kratka horror igrica, dopala mi se u svakom trenutku, ima svoju temu i koncept, jedva čekam ostale igrice odigrati, sretno u gradnji ostalih igrica !

(1 edit) (+1)

Puno ti hvala :D

(+2)

With the instructions saying to look around because things would change and the game showing how many days were left, I fully expected this to be a slow burn horror. But NOPE! That escalated quickly... and somehow kept escalating.

Wow, it is incredibly impressive how you were able to keep the atmosphere at such a high level pretty much through the entire game. Completing the tasks each day felt very tense, especially with how increasingly unsettling the music became. The art is fantastic and the protagonists expressions are surprisingly horrifying.

Have not found the easter egg yet, will start hunting for that soon. This was an incredible experience, I loved every moment and I will definitely be checking out your other games.

(+2)

Thank you so much for the kind words :D I'm thrilled that you got so much enjoyment out of it! It's actually been very close to a year since I made this game, so I'm working on a little anniversary surprise for the 31st. As for the easter egg, I do have to warn you it is extremely difficult to find! Try looking where you think the game wouldn't allow ;) Thanks again for playing my game and I can't wait to hear how your hunt goes! Good luck!

Thank you! I worked hard on that art and I’m thrilled it was able to give you a good scare! You’ll know the code when you see it, and it’s the hidden Easter egg, however it’s incredibly hard to find. You have to think outside the box and look where you think the game wouldn’t allow ;)

(+1)

Hello! My Name is Rance i'm a translator and I would like to translate TWSTM into Portuguese!

Awesome, thank you so much!!! That's incredible that you're willing to help a whole new audience experience my game! XD I'll be busy for the next two weeks or so finishing the next game but afterwards I'll be updating TWSTM, and that would be a perfect time to get a translation underway! Do you want to discuss it further on Twitter or Discord? (And just so it's clear I'll be keeping the copyright on the translated version as well.)

(+1)

I have both twitter and disagree, it may be what you think is best.

My Twitter is: @RGuertena

My discord is: Rance Guertena Sama#8265

You can call any of the two and I will answer!

Alright, awesome!

Hey! I have been trying to download this but can't play it. I use a Mac and whenever I try to open the game it says "The application “Game” can’t be opened."

Hi! Thanks so much for letting me know, and I'm very sorry to hear that. I don't have a Mac so it's difficult for me to make it work since I can't play test it, but I'll try to fix it!

(+1)

Hey you, how's it going? Probably don't remember me. But, I definitely remember this awesome game!! I had to part ways from me when we were just become friends on Twitter awhile ago because I had real life issues!! No Internet either!! Anyways, just wanted to check in on you and wish you the best :)

Of course I remember you! We're beta testing buddies!!! Though I have to say I procrastinated on the current game and I won't be able to release it early for playtesting :/ It's coming out in just over a week though! No worries about Twitter; sometimes things come up!

Deleted 1 year ago

Ok sounds good! Funny thing is I'll actually need a beta tester in just a few days XD My third came is almost ready!

Oh, did you misspell it? It says that account doesn't exist

Deleted 1 year ago

Ok, found you! Kirito pfp?

(+2)

Made an account just to say that this game is really good. The sound design is amazing and even though there was like only 1 jumpscare it really got me. Short but good

Thank you so much!!! I'm honored that you came here to tell me, even though your video was posted awhile ago! I really appreciate it.

(+1)

creepy!!! Love the game

Thanks! Just watched your playthrough, and I enjoyed your commentary and reactions! If you do ever revisit it, I recommend you check the window... ;)

(+1)

i did..... spooky! Is there a way up the stairs btw?

(+1)

Unfortunately not. Due to the rules of the competition, the game had to be 10 to 20 minutes long, so if I added the second floor it would have been too long. But if it eases your curiosity a little, all that's up there is the other family members' possessions, and Alice moved anything she thought was valuable downstairs. She doesn't like going up there because of her guilt.

For anyone who wanted to use wine to play this on a Mac, unfortunately it doesn't work and I get a notification saying theres a deficiency in wine. It's a shame it looks like a great game, let us know if a mac version gets released :D

Hey, thanks for bringing this to my attention! I tried putting it into a Mac executable program, but since I only have a Windows computer you'll have to let me know if it works! :)

(+2)

Oh man, this was a good one. A little short, but it set out to do something and it got it done.

Atmosphere was pretty solid. Things moving around, looking out the window every morning, good stuff. Audio mixing was a little hit or miss for me, seemed like the BG music was a little too loud/repetitive on some days.

Art was also kind of hit or miss, never been a big fan of the "super pointy chin" style. That said, once things started picking up the emotion that came through the art was fantastic, especially with the MC's eyes. More than anything else in the game, her face as everything fell apart got to me.

Overall, 10/10 my pants will never recover.

(Also I'm not gonna lie homeboy at the end looked like he was gonna try and find his honor at the bottom of the well.)

Hey, thanks for the feedback! I'm glad that even if the art style wasn't up your alley, you appreciated the chills it brings! One thing I'm confused about though-what do you mean by "find his honor at the bottom of the well"? I'm afraid I don't understand! XD

(+1)

The marks on his face reminded me of zuko from atla's scars lol.

OHHH OK! Haha, now I get it! Thanks

(+2)

Neat game! I enjoyed how the game got progressively deeper into the horror as the days counted down. Simple, but effective :) Feel free to check out my play-session below!

Thanks for posting your let's play! I enjoyed the commentary throughout the video, and how you kept speculating about what was really going on! Being a story-driven game, investigating and thinking is the way to get the full experience! Good video!

(1 edit) (+1)

Pros and cons are down below) Check out my vid here:

Advantages:

1. That was sooo damn spooky! The whole thing was just terrifying and unsettling. Wonderfully done!

2. I especially loved the face of the main character. At some point, when you think it can't get any creepier - it gets there and beyond XD

Disadvantages:

1. I think the introduction of sprint is kinda useless cause there were no chase scenes. Maybe it would be cool to add some or to introduce controls before the start of the game. It was just weird - seeing that you can sprint in a creepy basement, getting suspension built up and then nothing happened :(

2. I anticipated alternative ending in the shed so much! And there were none :( It would be so cool if there were several endings. Like if you want to finish the game in the shed instead of the well - then the investigation will come up with different conclusion or something like that. I think it would be a great addition to the game!

Overall:

Liked that a lot! A LOT! It was a wonderfully made experience. Can't wait for more from you! 5/5

Hope my feedback was useful!

(+1)

Thank you for the playthrough and the detailed review! To be honest, I put in the dash control warning just to mess with players and keep the game unpredictable (not every suspicious thing leads to a scare), but you have a valid point and I can see why that would come off as a disappointment. As for multiple endings, I think that's an awesome idea! Especially with getting different investigation results. I'll definitely use that in future games!

Once again, thank you for the compliments and constructive criticism. I'm glad you got a scare out of TWSTM, and I enjoyed your video! Keep on gaming, Erderi!

(+1)

Very good game, terrifying, so FUCKING TERRIFYING!!

Little short but a good game :)

Haha, wish I could've seen your reactions! Sounds like you had an interesting time. I'm thrilled it made such a strong impression on you!

Yeah I was like holy shit  what the fuck was that ;)

(+1)

I've got to admit, at first i was skeptic because I thought it was going in a certain direction for which I though some of the details where a bit too on the nose, but it actually ended up being a very pleasant gameplay! I really like the idea of exploring the mental degradation of the main character, and while I often prefer my supernatural explained, leaving the creature, and causes of the hallucinations ambiguous, actually did a great service for the atmosphere.

Overall, I commend you for the interesting concept and great atmosphere! One thing I'd point out tho, is that I'd tone it down with the creepy notes in the bookshelf, for example, a few come a bit too on the nose, and kind of drag me out of the atmosphere. I'd also suggest looking through true crime documentaries (as long as they dont make you uncomfortable of course): I'm a sucker for policial and horror media, and true crime history is a very good source for ideas and plot devices in such genres.

Overall, I commend you for the great game! I look forward to more updates.

Thank you for the detailed feedback, the kind words and the constructive criticism! I'm glad that you liked the game, and I appreciate your advice! I'm an avid reader, so I'll be sure to check out some if that true crime stuff (probably books more than documentaries, though). While I draw a lot of inspiration from-surprise, surprise-horror and the occasional mystery, researching the methods and motives of real killers could lend a lot to the story!

(+1)

You're welcome! I hope it helps!
Also, I was wondering of you'd be interested about working with an artist (I tried to dm this but i don't really understand Itchios interface haha). Should I send you a DM via twitter?

I usually make my own art, but I'm interested to see what you can do! And yeah, DMing me in Twitter is usually the fastest way for me to see something. Go for it!

Deleted 3 years ago

I'm glad you gave it a shot! Thanks for playing!

(+1)

Is the game finished and needs no more updates?

It's finished, though I'll update it in the near future to add a little extra content. But if you find any glitches, just let me know and I'll fix it right up!

(+1)

this was such a great horro game:) i did a live stream

(+1)

Watched the whole live stream, and I loved it! Everything from your questions to your reactions was fun to see, especially with the books. Keep on gaming!

(1 edit) (+2)

I just had to leave a comment cause oh boy this was awesome, I really enjoyed the fact you could examine everything and it would get you a different reaction each day getting creepier and creepier, I really appreciate games like these that scare you using mostly words.

really nice! good job!

- apriikct

I'm thrilled you took the time to inspect everything! They say the devil's in the details, and that's the way to get the full experience out of this game! With the story focus I wanted to do more than get physical reactions out of people, like jumping- I also wanted to make them  think about what was going on and to build up suspicion and paranoia.

(+1)

Really enjoyed the experience, i m glad you finished your project and look forward to seeing more someday.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. More on the way!

First of all, I state somewhere in the beginning of this video that this was developed for some manner of Creepypasta Game Jam. I seem to remember reading that on this page, but now I can't find it at all and I think I may have imagined it or confused it with another game. So, just in case, I apologize for potentially saying something false. That's my bad.

So, on to the game itself. I enjoy RPGMaker horror quite a bit, and it's always fun to see an environment gradually get more demented (great examples of that would be Love, Sam and Suite 776 for those interested), so you're giving me a lot of fun to work with here. and with some of the faces your main character ends up making and the excellent sound design, you do rack up some creeps.

I do find the game to be one of those that tries a little too hard, throwing as much "creepy" at the player as possible with (seemingly) little coherence and relation to the story going on - but that's actually not a bad thing here. All the more demented lines your character start to speak are so over the top that they become immensely entertaining, and like I said, the sound, the faces and some of the implications do actually manage to build up to a creepy atmosphere. It's like a psycho roller coaster ride once you get into it, and it's super fun.

I feel like maybe whatever story is being told here could be communicated just a tiny bit more clearly, but nonetheless, I ended up really getting into the game's off the wall tone, and certainly curious about the real narrative happening here.

So, good work. Hope to some day see what that stinger is about.

Thank you so much for taking the time to do a let's play and a review! As far as the creepypasta game jam thing goes, you're right-it's just mentioned on a splash screen at the start of the game, not on the website. Though I should mention that it's inspired atmospherically by creepypastas, but the story and characters are original.

I'm glad it was an immersive experience for you! Thanks again for the detailed review, and I'll have to check out those recommendations!

(+1)

Ladies and gentlemen..... my let's play:

(+1)

Great job on the video! I'm glad you had fun with this game, and I enjoyed your window reaction!

(+1)

This was such a cute and spooky game. I loved everything about it.

Thank you! I just watched the video, and I like it! If you ever want to play through it again, stick around after the credits for a special surprise ;)

(+1)

Had a little of a jumpscare somewhere ;)
This was amazing. I really had a blast playing this. Keep on going, you really are an amazing developer!!! I've never created games before but a humble bundle for RPG Assets I recently got is making me think about trying to learn coding, and possible create a project myself... and I've always wanted to involve dragons because well, dragons are my favorite! Now that I've seen you used RPG Maker MV, I may have to get that myself!

A few minutes later after typing what's above:
I actually already have RPG Maker MV and VX Ace! Excited!

(+1)

Thanks for the kind words! As for making a game, I think you should just go for it! Ngl the first time around there will be a lot of walls you run into, and it'll be challenging to learn certain aspects of coding, but once you overcome them it's that much more rewarding! There's a steep learning curve, too, so it'll be difficult for awhile but once you get the hang of it, you can create just about anything! And if you do finish a game, I'd be happy to play it myself. To me there's no such thing as "enough" RPG games!

(+1)

Awwww, Michaela! Thank you so much! ^-^ I'd be absolutely honored if you were to play a game that I created ^-^ And you're right! There's NO such thing as "enough" RPG games! I'm always going to find Indie/2D games to play! I'm going to play a couple more to get some inspiration and creativity going :D I'm following you now so I'll remember you :)

It'd be my pleasure to try out your game! Also, getting inspiration has always been my favorite part of the creation process! I always keep a notebook handy, just in case I get an idea when I least expect it. And thanks for the follow! Even though it'll be a long time until it's ready, I'm making another game in the series, so that will help keep you posted!

(+1)

I wonder if there's a way to keep in contact with you ^-^ Other than replying to comments on here, haha! I'd absolutely love to keep you posted on my progress, that way you don't forget about me :P Hahaha! Because, I know mine won't be ready for a long time as well :P

That's a great idea! If you have Twitter, you could DM me @MThisten. If you don't, we could work out something else as well.

(+1)

hey! me and my friend played this game together. you have a lot of potential as a gamedev, and we are cheering you on. keep on keeping on!

Thank you, that means a lot to me!  I think it's awesome that you played it with a friend; that's how I play most games as well! And believe me, I'm just getting started ;)

(5 edits) (+1)

i think this is one of my favorite rpg games. i hope you make more of these in the future like a sequel! i've always wanted to try making one of these but haven't really had the chance. ngl the bedroom jumpscare made me jump lmao. also, did you draw the characters like alice and her mom yourself? because i really like your unique artstyle :)

(+1)

Thank you for such a nice comment! I am working on the next game, but it'll be awhile before it's ready. Think if this game as an isolated case in a much larger story. Also, I did do all the art myself! I'm glad you like it! And if you ever do get the chance to make a game again, my advice is to just go for it. I didn't think I was ready myself, but because of a contest I'm entering I had a deadline with this game, but  I think it turned out really well!

(+1)

your welcome! take your time with making the next game and yeah there's no need to rush. you have a very unique artstyle. and yes, i lose motivation easily and if something's hard to do i usually give up on it. but i'll try again! your game is very well-made! the plot was really good and don't worry it definitely did turn out well.

(+1)

Thanks! That's very nice of you to say! And no pressure, but if you do ever finish a game, just let me know. I'm always looking for another good rpg maker game to play! Especially because the engine works for just about any idea. AAA developers don't take many risks, so you can expect more or less the same games from them. But with RPG maker, people can make the games with off-the-wall ideas that wouldn't normally be invested in (and therefore we'd never see) otherwise. They're original. They're fresh. And that's what makes them so exciting!

Your welcome again! It'll probably take a while for me to make one! And yeah, i feel the same way about RPG maker. I honestly love playing them and they're really original! I'm wondering about making a horror-adventure rpg game at some point.

That's awesome! I'm sure you could tell because of the game I made, but horror is my favorite genre! I'm practically addicted XD The adventure part sounds good, too!

(+1)

I have to say this is probably my favorite entry to the contest everything was done so well and from the ending I feel like the story isn't 100% over it feels like this was just the beginning to a story I might be totally wrong but I enjoyed it a lot. also is this your first rpgmaker game?

No, you're absolutely right! This game is an isolated case in a much larger plot. It'll be a long time until it's ready for release, but I'm working on the next installment in the series. As far as my game making, I've worked on a few private projects before but this is my first public release! Thank you so much for the kind comment Rebor; feedback from players like you means a lot to me!

(+1)

Ill make sure to watch out for the sequel to this you have a lot of great scary promise for a game creator and I made sure to go back and play it a second time around and the amount of details I can now see is amazing how much thought and care went into this even though there was a time limit. There is few questions I'm wondering what is up stairs in the house? Why doesn't she go upstairs even though the bodies are gone? WHO IS HE?

Get ready, this is a long one! XD

Upstairs is the other bedrooms, so you're not missing much. The story reason she won't go up is that she's taken anything of value down stairs and has no need to go upstairs, not to mention the memories of her family could upset her one way or another. The technical reason you can't go up is because one of the contest guidelines was to make the game 10 to 20 minutes long, so I left it out to shorten things.

As for who "HE" is... Well, it's hard to describe. It's a supernatural entity, and in the game it manifests itself as the thing outside the window, as the peeping wall (that background on the seventh day) and as those Alice clones with too many eyes. While the figure in the basement and the skeletons are unusual, those were spirits from the well victims. "HE" is also one of the contributors to Alice's insanity.

There's a bigger story at work, especially concerning the forest itself, so things will make more sense once the next game comes out. Anyway, it makes me glad that you enjoyed my game so much, and that you're paying attention to all the details!

(+1)

Shh... The voices are speaking to me :D

Thanks for playing my game! The video was awesome, and your attention to detail was great for getting the whole experience. Loved your reaction to the last day!

Amazing game! Really enjoyed it :)

here's the gameplay

Keep it up :)

Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it, and I got a kick out of watching your video!

Found any bugs? Got any compliments or constructive criticism?

Drop me a comment here! I'll be releasing updates in the near future, and I'm working on other projects as well. I'd love to hear what you have to say!

Heya, I know it's been two years since you asked, so you've probably moved onto other projects. I love the concept of your game, even though there were some things that could've been improved, like the artwork and how the story was told for example, but it's still a nice little scary game!
